Meet Reverend Thomas Scott

Reverend Thomas Scott has a respected and longstanding history of continuous public service to the Tampa community. He was first elected as a County Commissioner for Hillsborough County in 1996 and has served as Chairman of the Commission for three separate terms. These victories have provided him with over thirteen years of continuous public service and more importantly, years of proven leadership, responsibility and dependable trust. These qualities and more are what place Reverend Scott in such high regard of citizens of our community.

Reverend Thomas Scott began service to the Tampa City Council representing District 5 on April 1, 2007. Since April 2008 he has served as Chairman of the Council; once again demonstrating his leadership ability for three consecutive years.

Councilman Scott knows and understands the City of Tampa and community at-large. He serves as a Board Member on the Tampa Sports Authority, Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, and the Hillsborough County Transportation Task Force. He also serves as Chairman of the Affordable Housing Advisory Board and served as Chairman of the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board in 2007.

Over the years, he has served on the Aviation Authority, Hillsborough County Hospital Authority, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, Florida State Fair Authority, Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tourist Development Council, Emergency Policy Board and many more boards and agencies.

Reverend Scott is a native of Macon, Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida where he earned a bachelor's of arts degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. He attended the Assembly of God Theological Seminary and earned a master's of arts degree in Biblical Studies. He is also a recipient of a Doctor of Divinity degree conferred upon him by the Southern California School of Ministry in 1995, and a Doctor of Humane Letters conferred on July 29, 2006 from Florida Metropolitan University.

Reverend Scott also serves as the Senior Pastor of the 34th Street Church of God where he has served for thirty years. Reverend Scott has been married to Marva L. Scott for thirty-five years; they have two sons; Marcus and Marlon, one daughter, Marla, and ten grandchildren.
